The Facilities Supervisor oversees and assists with all maintenance, operation, renovation and construction activities of facilities, building systems and grounds owned by the County of Perth. Provides coordination, supervisory direction and strategic planning to ensure operational efficiency, energy management and accessibility of County facilities.
 
Primary Responsibilities:
  • Supervises the efficient operation, maintenance and asset management of County owned and leased facilities and grounds
  • Supervises staff and students within the Facilities division and oversees custodial and maintenance contractors to ensure obligations are met
  • Assists in the hiring of staff within the Facilities division. Provides orientation, training, and performance management to all staff within the division
  • Preparation and submission of input into the Division’s annual facility maintenance work plans and budget of the Public Works division
  • Performs duties in compliance with the Occupational Health and Safety Act and County of Perth policies and procedures. Advises workers of any known workplace hazards and instructions to control hazards. Takes every precaution reasonable for the protection of workers
  • Responsible for securing energy for the County facilities and the Energy Management Program Annual Ministry reporting. Monitors energy consumption of all utilities and seeks and implements conservation opportunities
  • Oversees construction and renovation projects. Determines scope of work, reviews tender documents for small capital projects and assists the Director of Public Works with major capital projects
  • Responsible for County facility security systems including the administration and tracking of access cards and keys. Ensure the County security systems are maintained and appropriate for current risks; recommending enhancements where applicable
  • Assists the Public Works Director by preparing data required for facilities related reports to County Council and other projects
  • First on on-call list – communicate with other staff if away or unavailable
  • Performs some custodial and maintenance activities to ensure that buildings are operated and maintained in safe, clean, presentable and functional condition and meets requirements of the Ontario Building Code
  • Complete requisitions of building repairs and materials for facilities
  • Maintains regular communications with all departments, with external contractors, and suppliers
  • Responds to oral and written complaints from staff and the public concerning County facilities
  • Makes decisions on purchasing of materials, supplies, services and equipment required to complete work activities in accordance with established budgetary guidelines
  • Prepares and maintains inventory database of all facilities provisions and supplies, such as cleaning products, various sundries, WHMIS/GHS products and SDS’ for all County owned facilities
  • Performs quality control in all functions, and initiates corrective action as required
  • Performs other assigned duties, as required
Qualifications:
  • Diploma in engineering technology, facilities management or equivalency in post secondary education in a specialized trade
  • Minimum of 5 years of progressively responsible work experience in operations, renovation and project management of multi-site facilities, including municipal facilities in a supervisory capacity
  • Knowledge of equipment, materials, supplies and techniques used in facilities operations, construction and maintenance
  • Experience with the government grant application process
  • Knowledge of design and engineering practices and a proven ability to select and oversee the work of consultants and contractors for building repairs and renovations
  • Demonstrated skill using computer applications such as Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint, as well as project and asset management software
  • Comprehensive knowledge of the Occupational Health and Safety Act and related regulations, and all other legislation and codes pertaining to building maintenance and construction and the Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities (AODA)
  • Good communication and public relations skills
Shift:Monday to Friday, 40 hours per week with occasional evening and weekend work when required.
 
Hourly Range:$94,411.20-$110,427.20 (based on Perth County’s 2024 salary grid).
