Perth County is recruiting for the position of Planner to join the Planning division. This position is primarily responsible for assisting in providing a range of planning services to the County and member municipalities. To research and review planning issues, implement suitable policy and planning initiatives, and to process development applications.
 
Primary Responsibilities:
  • Provide excellent customer service by responding to daily written and verbal inquiries relating to development review and general planning information in a manner that is both timely and accurate
  • Provide expertise in the review and timely evaluation of planning applications in respect of regulation, provincial policy, the Official Plan and implementing zoning by-laws
  • Present development applications and provide a professional opinion to County Council and local Councils
  • Provide support and guidance to applicants on the application requirements and process
  • Conduct site inspections to determine suitability of development applications
  • Prepare witness statements and appear as an expert witness when required at the Ontario Land Tribunal
  • Maintain a high level of service and collaboration with County Council, local Municipalities and the various divisions within them 
  • Provide technical advice and problem-solving assistance regarding planning matters to other County Departments, CAO, Council and to the lower tier municipalities as assigned by the Manager
  • Liaise with regulatory officials at the federal, provincial and municipal levels
  • Assist the Manager in monitoring the operating performance of the Planning and Development Department against established procedures and standards
  • Assist the Senior Policy Planner with the development of new planning policies and regular review of existing policies related to development applications and long-range projects
Qualifications:
  • Successfully completed University education in a planning discipline or equivalent with related experience
  • Registered Professional Planner – RPP/MCIP, or candidate
  • Minimum of 2 years experience in a planning role
  • Proficient understanding of the Planning Act, Provincial Policy Statement, Official Plans, Zoning By-laws and related legislation and regulations
  • Excellent interpersonal and customer service skills
  • Strong oral and written skills
  • Critical thinking and strategic planning skills
  • Excellent communication skills, including negotiation, collaboration, policy writing, report writing and presentation skills
  • Proficiency in multiple computer software applications including Microsoft Windows and Microsoft Office Suite and GIS viewing software
 
Shift:Monday to Friday, 8:30 am to 4:30 pm (35 hours per week) with some night meetings.
 
Salary Range:$82,609.80 - $96,623.80 (based on Perth County’s 2024 salary grid).
