The IT Support Technician provides first-point-of-contact technical support to staff and County Council, ensuring the reliable operation of end-user technologies and timely resolution of service requests; working under the direction of the Systems and Security Administrator, this position is responsible for responding to helpdesk requests, deploying and supporting end-user computer systems, telephony, peripherals and applications, and contributing to IT documentation, training, and asset management. The role serves as a key point of contact for day-to-day technology support and escalates complex issues to senior Technology Services staff as required. |
| Primary Responsibilities: |
- Serve as the primary first-point-of-contact for Technology Services, responding to service requests and incidents via phone, email, service desk software, or in person.
- Provide first-level troubleshooting, issue resolution, and technical support to all users and County Council on a broad range of network, hardware and applications ensuring security is a priority.
- Accurately log, track, update, and resolve incidents and service requests in the IT service management system in accordance with established service standards.
- Escalate incidents and service requests that cannot be resolved at the first level to senior Technology Services staff, providing clear documentation and diagnostic information.
- Set up, configure, deploy, and support end-user equipment, including but not limited to computers, VoIP telephones, printers, monitors, scanners, and related peripherals.
- Assist with basic user account provisioning and access requests under established policies, procedures, and security controls.
- Develop and deliver staff training and orientation content related to corporate hardware, applications, and cloud-based services.
- Develop and maintain written procedures, user guides, and technical documentation supporting installations, upgrades, maintenance, and system usage.
- Contribute to the continuous improvement of knowledge base articles and support documentation to enhance service delivery and self-service options.
- Maintain accurate records of IT assets, including but not limited to computers, peripherals, and mobile devices, application licenses and subscriptions, warranty and lifecycle information and equipment assignments and locations
- Document new asset and equipment allocations and update records following deployments, changes, or retirements.
- Identify unused, obsolete, or underutilized equipment and coordinate redeployment, resale, secure disposal, or recycling in accordance with organizational policies.
- Work collaboratively with other Technology Services staff on escalated support issues, deployments, and projects.
- Follow established standards, policies, and procedures to ensure consistency, security, and reliability of IT services.
- Ensure that Occupational Health and Safety practices and County of Perth policies and procedures are adhered to; wear any personal protective equipment required to ensure personal safety and report any known hazards and/or incidents in the workplace to immediate Supervisor
- Performs other duties as assigned in accordance with Division objectives
| Qualifications: |
- Post-secondary degree or diploma in Computer Science or Information Technology or a related computer diploma program specializing in computer software/hardware and PC operating systems is required.
- Current Comp TIA A+, Comp TIA Network+ certifications and Information Technology Infrastructure Library (ITIL) v3 (or newer) knowledge and certification are considered assets.
- Minimum two (2) years of practical experience providing technical support in a Microsoft Windows environment.
- Familiarity with TCP/IP, Wi-Fi, VoIP, LAN and WAN concepts preferred
- Experience with current versions of desktop (Windows), server (Windows and Linux) and mobile (iOS and Android) operating Systems
- Strong knowledge of current versions of Microsoft Office, and other common enterprise-level applications (PDF editing, Google and Microsoft browsers)
- Familiarity with Microsoft M365 suite of applications and concepts
- Advanced troubleshooting skills and knowledge of computing hardware including computers, tablets, smartphones, VoIP phones, printers and other common peripherals
- High level of interpersonal, communication, team/customer relations skills
- High degree of precision and accuracy in documentation and investigative procedures
- Adaptability to frequent technological changes and ability to learn, demonstrate, and teach new applications and hardware processes to users.
- Demonstrated ability to work effectively within a team environment and unsupervised. Ability to adapt to changing priorities, meet deadlines and deal with interruptions.
- Ability to maintain a high level of confidentiality
- Must possess a valid Ontario Class ‘G’ Driver’s License and access to reliable vehicle
| Shift: | Monday to Friday, 8:30 am to 4:30 pm (35 hours per week) |
| Salary Range: | $68,796-$80,444 (based on Perth County’s 2026 salary grid). |
